VP SARA DUTERTE'S FAREWELL SPEECH ON MICECON 2023 DAVAO

DAVAO CITY, Davao
Vice President Sara Duterte delivered her remarks at the MICECon 2023 Davao Farewell Dinner, where she lauded Davao City for its remarkable hosting of the conference and thanked the private sector for its role in the realization of the City’s goals.

“To our guests here in Davao City, I have to say that the strength of Davao City is the symbiotic relationship of the private sector and the local government unit. Napakalaki po ng pinagpapasalamat namin sa private sector, dahil sa malaking tulong nila sa mga pangarap ng local government unit. Thank you very much,” the Vice President said.

“Congratulations to Davao City for successfully hosting the MICECon 2023. And to the DOT, and the TPB, daghang salamat for bringing back MICECon to Davao City,” she added, recalling the city's first-time hosting of the MICECon in 2014 as a groundbreaking event that reinforced the city’s position as a major player and attractive destination in the conventions and exhibits industry.

“Through the collaboration of the Davao City local government and the private sector, we formed the MICE Executive Committee in 2015. From then until now Davao City hosted numerous conventions, and organized various roadshows and sales missions,” the Vice President enthused.

“While the primary goal of MICECon is to attract investors and form new partnerships, its impacts extend beyond the immediate benefits. Conventions such as these drive up tourist arrivals and stir various economic activities. Neighboring cities and provinces also benefit from the influx of attendees in Davao City. Many enterprising Davaoeños have developed local tour packages, leisure, entertainment spots to respond to the influx of tourists,” she added.

As she acknowledged the efforts of the DOT to drive up domestic tourism through tourism circuits and green corridors, the Vice President manifested her support to Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco and the plans and programs of the Department.

The Vice President also stressed that, in the country’s post-pandemic recovery, there is a need for more accommodation facilities, events venues, and recreation amenities, and encouraged tourism stakeholders to work with other industry leaders to invest in areas such as “medical tourism, heritage tourism, retirement havens, entertainment spots, open-space recreation, and more community-based travel destinations.”

“Let us work together to revitalize our tourism sector with diverse packages, incentives, and strategic investments with the focus on service quality in public health, transportation, and most of all, enriching the immersive experience of our visitors,” the Vice President enthused.
